Abstract:
In this paper, we will discuss the reforms concerning family life that started with Tanzimat finished with the Family Act of 1917 (HAK=Hukuk-i Aile Kararnamesi). Women’s rights and the value given to women in Islam have always been on the world’s agenda. The Family Act that was prepared in the final years of the Ottoman Empire is the most important legal work in the Islamic world with respect to women’s rights.
