Abstract:
This article analyses the structure and content of al-Subkī’s Jam‘ al-Jawāmi‘, a widely accepted work in uṣūl al-fiqh. The book consists seven chapters, aside from the introduction and a conclusion. Thus, he follows one of the methods of chapterisation that prevailed at that time. The researcher classified his contents into three areas: the subject matter of uṣūl, issues related to uṣūl and issues other than uṣūl. These three areas are elaborated and further classified in the study. This article concludes that, although it is a very precise text, Jam‘ al-Jawāmi‘ contains all major discussions in uṣūl, including those from other disciplines. In addition, he accommodates theology and briefly treats the behavioural aspects. This gives his work a unique form.
